The Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) Hamilton is warning residents of an individual going door-to-door seeking unauthorized donations.
The Branch has received reports that individuals have visited at least one Hamilton mountain neighbourhood, falsely identifying themselves as affiliated with CMHA and then asking for contributions as well as credit card or banking information.
“CMHA Hamilton does not seek donations in such a way and people who come to your residence making these requests are not doing so on our behalf,” said Marilyn Jewell, Executive Director of CMHA Hamilton.
This is not the first time that CMHA’s name has been used in fraudulent activity. Last fall, there were similar reports of door-to-door solicitation in the Hamilton area.
CMHA has notified authorities of this current scam.
